How does sponsoring a student work?

CFAM invites you to partner with us to provide a Christian education for a child in Haiti. There are very few public schools in Haiti; thus, thousands of kids have no place to attend school except private school. However, with many parents making only $5 a day it is extremely difficult if not impossible for their children to go to school. Through your generous gift of $30 a month for 10 months or a one time gift of $300 you can provide an education for one child for an entire school year. For more information keep reading below.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I pay monthly who do I send the money too?

CFAM has a partnership with NC Baptist of Mission in Cary, NC. They have been working and serving in Haiti together for numerous years. You can donate online by clicking here through NC Baptists on Mission or send your $30 monthly check or one time gift of $300 made payable to NC Baptist on Mission. Simply write in the memo of the check: CFAM Child Sponsorship (online donations are automatically designated to CFAM). NC Baptist on Mission sends gifts to CFAM through their ministry account via a secure banking service. Their address is:

Baptist on Mission, PO Box 1107, Cary NC 27512

What does the my donation cover?

The $30 monthly donation covers school tuition (each month), uniform, school supplies, and one meal each day the child is in school. The one time gift of $300 covers tuition for the year, plus uniform, school supplies, and the meal each day the child is in school.

How will I know the money I send is allowing the child to stay in school?

Every month you will receive an email with a current picture of the child in the school uniform with a brief description of how they are doing. Depending on the child’s age he or she will also correspond in the email as well. Part of the school curriculum is to learn English as a second language. Of course, you are always welcome to visit us in Haiti and meet your child personally.

How do they determine what child is sponsored?

Each school has a committee made up of Romil (Founder of CFAM), School Principal,  School Administrator, Teacher, and a parent who has been elected to serve on the committee. They will evaluate the greatest needs of the children along with various other factors (parent commitment, demonstration of child’s willingness to work hard at school, reliability, etc.) and make a determination which child would be awarded the sponsorship.

Does the child receive the money?

No, the $30 (monthly) or $300 (one time gift) goes to the school and is assigned to that child’s account as being current on school tuition.

What if I want to do something special for my child at Christmas time or some other special occasion, like a birthday?

We would love for you to do something special for your child. In fact, at the end of the monthly report we will list any known needs the child may have (shoes, clothes, school supplies, etc). You are not obligated to help, but if you choose to do something special we will do all we can to help. Unfortunately, at this time, shipping items to Haiti is risky and extremely difficult. The best way to help is to send extra money (through NC Baptist on Mission) designated for a specific usage for the child. The leadership team at CFAM will purchase the items and send you pictures via email of the child receiving the gift.

Can my financial gift be a tax write off?

Yes, Baptist on Mission is happy to send you a contribution statement at the end of the year.

How long is the commitment?

The commitment is for $30 for 10 months or just the one time gift of $300. At the end of the 10 months you will be asked if you would like to continue for the next year with the child. If not, no problem. We are grateful for any help. If you can continue then we will move forward as normal.

What if I cannot fulfill my commitment?

Of course, we highly encourage you to follow through on your commitment. However, we realize unforeseen things happen and it may not be possible for you to fulfill your promise. Please email us so we can make other arrangements on our end. No other action is needed.

What does the school believe doctrinally?

The school is in partnership NC Baptist on Mission and the Eastern Baptist Association of North Carolina and affirms the Southern Baptist Convention’s Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
